The answer is both simple and complicated. There is no hard and fast rule. But, if you feel distance from your spouse, you feel as if they no longer understand you, or you don't seem to have things in common anymore or struggle to talk about anything other than the kids, it may be something to consider. Relationships take work. And sometimes, through no fault of either person, life gets in the way. Work is exhausting, kids need to be driven here and there, the house needs to be maintained. Balancing all of the many demands on your time can be extremely difficult and if your relationship has gotten the short end of the stick for awhile, it may be that marriage counseling can help you reconnect to your partner and get back that closeness that is missing.
